The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have linked salmonella outbreaks with dry pet foods, including Pedigree and Special Kitty, produced at a Mars Petcare plant in Everson, Pa. Seventy-nine people became ill between 2006 and 2008. Most of the affected individuals were children aged 2 and younger.
