Confirmation gifts for any recipient

Confirmation is a special time in a young person's life, when many solidify their faith and continue the religious journey that started with baptism. Confirmation gives young adults the opportunity to further explore the gifts bestowed by the Holy Spirit and sets a foundation for them to serve as religious role models as they get older.

Families treat the sacrament of confirmation with reverence and celebration. Following the confirmation ceremony, many celebrants will retire to a party at home or go out to a restaurant with friends, family members and their confirmation sponsors in tow. While gifts are not mandatory, relatives of confirmands often like to bestow gifts upon their young relatives. Confirmation gifts often differ from Christmas or birthday gifts, as gift givers hope to incorporate confirmands' faith into the gifts. The following are a handful of gifts appropriate for confirmands.
  • Personalized bible: Nurturing one's faith means praying frequently and studying religious verses. What better way to help a confirmand learn about the mysteries of Christianity than by giving him or her a personalized copy of the Holy Bible? Make this gift even more special by choosing a Bible with a leather cover (or have a specialized cover made), and get it monogrammed with the recipient's name and date of the confirmation.
  • Jewelry: Jewelry is a treasured gift for newly confirmed boys or girls. A simple necklace with a crucifix is fitting for both male and female confirmands. Girls may like something featuring doves, which have often been used to symbolize the Holy Spirit.
  • Something red: A gift of something red, whether a piece of clothing, collectibles, keepsake boxes or journals, can tie into confirmation quite nicely. The sacrament of confirmation is closely related to Pentecost, when The Holy Spirit descended on the apostles. Red is the color of Pentecost and red garb is worn for confirmation ceremonies.
  • Patron saint memorabilia: Confirmands take the names of particular saints as their confirmation names. A statue or patron saint medal reflecting a confirmand's patron saint name makes for a great gift he or she can cherish for the rest of his or her life.
  • Rosaries: Don't forget the classic gift of a new rosary set. These rosaries can be made special by choosing precious metals or designs embellished with birthstones or the visages of the saints confirmands chose for their confirmation names.
Gifting the newly confirmed is easy when you have the right inspiration. Offer a gift that confirmands can cherish as they continue their spiritual journeys for years to come.
